Eye care
At Eyewear on Pako, our experienced team of optometrists are committed to helping you maintain healthy vision and optimal eye health.
Taking care of your eyes goes beyond clear vision. Regular eye examinations are essential for:
Early detection of eye conditions: Many eye conditions, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts, show little to no symptoms in their early stages. Through comprehensive eye examinations, our optometrists can detect these conditions early on and provide appropriate treatment to prevent or manage further complications.
Clear and comfortable vision: Our eyes (and visual tasks) change over time, and prescription adjustments may be needed to ensure clear and comfortable vision.
Overall eye health: Your eyes can provide valuable insights into your overall health. During eye exams, we can detect signs of systemic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and cholesterol imbalances, enabling early intervention and better management.
Our eye care services
Bulk-billed, comprehensive eye examinations: Our 30 minute appointments ensure your optometrist can listen to your concerns and address your vision and eye health needs. All appointments are bulk-billed for Medicare card holders.
Children’s eye examinations: Our optometrists are well equipped to complete eye examinations for children of all ages. We use a range of different techniques to assess a child’s vision and focusing, colour vision, depth perception, eye movements, eye health and more! It’s important all kids have eye exams even if you haven’t noticed any issues. Find out more here.
Optical coherence tomography: Our Optical Coherence Tomographer, or OCT for short, is a non-invasive scanner that provides cross-sectional imaging of the retina. OCT scans play an important role in monitoring for many eye conditions including glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. This is completed on indication by our optometrists at no extra cost.
Wide-field retinal photography: Our Optos ultra-wide field retina camera allows us to efficiently photograph up to 200 degrees of the retina in one image. Not only does this technology enhance the ability for early detection of eye conditions, it also gives peace of mind when your eyes are healthy. This is completed on indication by our optometrists at no extra cost.
Contact lens fitting and evaluation: We provide a wide range of contact lens options, including daily disposables, toric lenses for astigmatism, contact lenses for myopia control, and multifocal lenses for presbyopia. Our optometrists will walk you through the entire process from deciding what type of contact lenses will suit your eyes and visual needs to teaching you how to care for your contact lenses.
Emergency eye examinations and foreign body removal: If you notice a sudden onset change to your vision, we recommend calling us so we can triage your situation and provide you with a suitable appointment time.
Management of eye conditions: We use a range of assessment methods and the latest technology to assess and manage many eye conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, uveitis, pterygium, dry eyes and eye allergy. Our therapeutically endorsed optometrists are also trained to prescribe medicated eye drops as part of your eye health management. We can provide referrals to ophthalmologists (eye specialists) where required. We are also able to co-manage your eye health with your ophthalmologist, GP and other healthcare specialists.
Myopia control: Our optometrists provide myopia control services to slow down the progression of myopia in children and young adults. Through various methods, including Essilor Stellest spectacle lenses, Hoya MiyoSmart spectacle lenses, Coopervision MiSight contact lenses and Atropine eyedrops, we can help manage myopia progression effectively.
Diabetes eye examinations: If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, we perform comprehensive eye examinations to determine whether diabetes may be affecting your eyes. This involves dilating eye drops to assess the retina for signs of diabetic retinopathy.
Laser surgery assessments: We can provide advice on your options and suitability for laser refractive surgery. Our optometrists can also be involved in your post-operative care.
Vicroads driving assessments: Our optometrists can complete eyesight reports for driving licensing authorities like VicRoads.
Eye health education: At Eyewear on Pako, we believe it’s important you are well informed and involved in decision making about your eyes. Our optometrists take time to fully explain the findings of your eye examination.
